Choice of initial antifungal therapy in critically Ill patients

Background: In the recent years, there has been a significant rise in invasive candida infections. Epidemiological studies have demonstrated shift trend of Candida species being isolated and their susceptibility patterns. The present study was carried out to evaluate single institution experience burden candidemia. Methods: This prospective among 48 isolates from blood urine samples patients hospitalized intensive care unit (ICU) for period two years. Gram staining, culture anti-fungal testing were on all samples. Results: Highest occurrence candidemia age group 41-60 years with 50% male predominance. case fatality rate participants 54%. Type 2 diabetes mellitus risk factor, 45.8% diabetic 72.7% diabetics who developed expired (p value 0.035). this study, 23% albicans 77% non species. tropicalis (n=24) most frequently organism. Out expired, 27% 73% 0.177).
